Why Would I Wear A Foot Compression Sleeve Or Plantar Fasciitis Socks? You May Ask…

Well, according to the Mayo Clinic your Plantar Fascia is supposed to act like a bow-string to to absorb shock and support your arch. It is one of the first parts of your bodies spring system. When you over use this fascia tissue it can start to weaken. It will get little tears and stretched out of place. If you have ever take a spring and stretched it too far then you know that it is hard for that spring to go back where it belongs. Now your whole system is pressing down on your feet without one of their first lines of defense against gravity.

This is when we need to ask for a little help from our friend, elastic. The elastic helps in two huge ways to help out your plantar fasciitiis. The first thing it does is add a little extra support so your fascia can rest a bit and do not have to take all of the stress from gravity. Secondly the compression helps with blood-flow. When I first thought about this it seemed a little backwards that squeezing my foot would help with blood-flow but here is how it works.

  1. Blood leaves the heart filled with oxygen
  2. Gravity and the pumping heart have no problem getting the oxygenated blood down to your feet
  3. Gravity fights against the de-oxygenated blood getting back up to the heart.
  4. De-oxygenated blood can pool in your feet.

Now a little compression can help push the de-oxygenated blood out of your feet. The way I understand it is that it is like when you put your thumb over the end of your hose it speeds up the water coming out and kinda gives it a jump start. Anyway the reason why this is so good is that fascia, just like tendons and ligaments heal really slowly because they do not have that much oxygenated blood-flow. So the more good oxygen filled blood that can get through your feet the better for healing.

Wow, that was a mouthful and I hope it makes sense. As far as sleeves or socks is concerned they will both do a good job at this but sleeves will leave your toes free to move while socks are well… socks. For some people socks will bother them, especially if you are also dealing with something like Morton’s neuroma.

Best Plantar Fasciitis Sleeve For Compression

1.OrthoSleeve FS6 Compression Foot Sleeve

The OrthoSleeve Foot Compression Sleeve FS6 is the number one choice on our list, it has some good things going for it.

We’ve covered this one in more depth in our full review here. First off, we really like it when these compression foot sleeves come in a pair like this one does. If you have problems with both feet then you are covered but you are also covered for one foot since you will be able to wear a clean one everyday. If it came as a single then you would have to buy two and most of the single socks that are of the same quality as the OrthoSleeve are almost as expensive as this pair.

The material used on these 24% Spandex and 76% Micro-Nylon for great moisture wicking. These are comfortable enough and don’t bind up so you could wear them all day. The 6 distinct compression zones focus the majority of their firm support on the plantar fascia and the Achilles tendon.

One small downside to these socks is that people seem to have a problem with the sizing. People that order the right size for them have no problem but the sizing is different than a regular sock so if you do not spend time looking at their sizing chart then you might end up with the wrong size. Their sizing is based on the circumference of the arch of your foot (since that is where it is squeezing) not on your overall foot size. To help you out I have listed the sizes below.

2. Feetures! Plantar Fasciitis Sleeve

Here’s the thing: I’m almost positive that this is the same sleeve as the OrthoSleeve listed above. Almost like independent foot pain shops or marketers are sourcing this, branding it, and selling it as a third-party.

In doing further research I noticed that the term FS6 is being tossed around quite a bit and it is actually an FDA approved compression system for socks. On this listing it mentions Feetures’ patent-pending FS6 technology but doing my research shows that the the parent company of OrthoSleeve claims to be the inventor of FS6 so either way these companies are connected in some way so they can use that term.

If this is not made by the same company, it sure feels like it. Which means they are both great products. Feetures does focus on the runners market so maybe if you are a runner you will feel a difference in these.

One thing to be aware of is that these do not come in a pair, so you might want to order two of them.

3. CompressionZ Foot Sleeves

The brand Compressionz is completely focused on making compression wear for those with an active lifestyle.

Being good for anybody from Cross-fitters to office workers Compressionz foot sleeve offers a full range of motion while still compressing in all of the right right places. They use a breathable anti-itch fabric that squeezes to promote better blood circulation and thus hopefully faster recovery. They are also anti-bacterial to help reduce foot smell.

They are not using the patented FS6 technology that is FDA approved but many, many people have found that they were just right for them and definitely helped.

For us they were a little thin and their sizing made it a little hard to get the right size since they are based on foot length not on arch circumference. Since they were a little thin we actually prefered then for sleeping in since we get hot feet at night.

One thing that we really liked about these is all of the different colors that they came in, 9 colors. We like wearing bright colors, one guy on our team wears bright orange shoes almost everyday, they are great shoes for his feet though.

4. Bitly Plantar Fasciitis Compression Sock and Sleeve

Bitly just does one product, their compression sock. The Bitly socks come in 4 colors and it seems that their claim to fame (it is all over their website – at the time of writing) is that they are one of the top selling compression sleeves on Amazon. They are also pretty cost effective.

They give great support and they do not slide around much and they do come in a pair. All great things that this sock has going for it.

The moisture wicking and breathable fabric helps you go thorugh the whole day without stinking while provinding pain relief. These did not seem quite as well made as some of the other options above but they did do the trick pain wise.

The available colors are white, black, pink, and nude but just like in the picture you can see that there are lines going through the sock of a different color. We didnt really like that the white socks had black lines going through. Why not use the white on white? There is a similar thing going on with the Feetures above.

5. Pure Compression Plantar Fasciitis Sleeve

The thing I liked about the Pure Compression foot sleeve is that it comes in four different colors: neon pink, white, black, and beige. They also do not have the different color lines through them.

You know, in case you want to get funky with the neon pink while you’re rockin’ your foot sleeve 😉

Pure Compression is owned by a larger company that SharpeZone that is dedicated to making products to help you take your sports to th next level. With these sleeve that have produced a nice product at a very reasonable price.

From scouring the reviews on this sleeve, it seems as if most buyers really loved the comfort of this one. However, those that really love the support of the other sleeves, did not feel like this one provided the same type of support. Which makes sense since they are quite a bit thinner material.

Our Choice For The Best Plantar Fasciitis Socks And Foot Compression Sleeves Is…

Our choice? We are going with the OrthoSleeve FS6 Compression Sleeve. We are not really sure about who made or patented the FS6 FDA approved technology but we like it. The only downside to these two socks is the colors. The Feetures offer nicer looking colors but they do not come in a pair.

Another option would be to get a couple pair, one for tight support and one for comfort.

In other words, you could mix and match the OrthoSleeve or Feetures sleeve with the Pure Compression sleeve to alternate between support and comfort in morning and night. Some of these are thicker and some of them are thinner so it does make sense, as we mentioned earlier, that if you have particularly hot feet at a certain time of day that you might want lighter material. Lastly, remember that just these socks or sleeves are going to solve your problem. They will probably help speed up your recovery but if you are not stretching, working to strengthen your feet, and messaging them with tools like the TheraFlow or OH-Ball all of this will just fall apart. These are a tool but you still need to do the work to really heal.
